Prime Prine is a compilation album by American folk singer John Prine, released in 1976. It concluded Prine's run with Atlantic Records. No one associated with Prine had anything to do with the release, with the singer telling Goldmine in 1992, A friend of ours in the art department called us one night and snuck us into the we could at least look at the cover before it came out. Exclusive discount for Prime members. I've been a John Prine fan since his 1972 self-titled album came out. Since then, Illegal Smile, Your Flag Decal Won't Get You into Heaven Anymore, Angel from Montgomery, and Donald and Lydia have all become classics of the neo-folk singersongwriter genre. Discovered by Kris Kristofferson, Prine quickly put his first album together in an era of disillusionment and the still-deadly Viet Nam war, as well as recent assassinations of Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy. Atlantic Records' compilation of John Prine's first four albums was good for its time and became his only gold record, but was later superseded by Rhino's Great Days anthology. If Prine had less talent, this would have been a much easier review to write. Because of the fact that the highs show brilliance, the lows are more noticeable hes a good songwriter but there are indications that he can be a great one. In his liner notes Kris Kristofferson writes of Prine: Twenty-four years old and writes like hes two-hundred and twenty. The album is well-produced, with a small back-up band used throughout. Though after seeing John perform solo at Paul Colbys Bitter End, accompanying himself on guitar, its obvious that he can do well with or without. Its good to have such a fine new talent around who is both interesting and provocative. An acclaimed singersongwriter whose literate work flirted with everything from acoustic folk to rockabilly to straight-ahead country, John Prine was born October 10, 1946, in Maywood, Illinois. Raised by parents firmly rooted in their rural Kentucky. read more. similar to. johnprine Albums. Prime Prine: The Best of John Prine. LATEST PLAYLIST. Album Details. John Prine The Best Of. When my soul Went thru the ceiling And on up into heaven I did ride When I got there they did say John, it happened this way You slipped upon the floor And hit your head And all the angels say Just before you passed away These were the very last words That you said: Chorus: Please don't bury me Down in. that cold cold ground No, I'd druther have em cut me up And pass me all around Throw my brain in a hurricane And the blind can have my eyes And the deaf can take both of my ears If they don't mind the size Give my stomach to Milwaukee If they run out of beer Put my so. A brilliant storyteller of extraordinary wit, perception, social conscience, and deep humanity. John Prine will be deeply missed by his fellow artists
