Pink Cadillac is the sixth album by American folk singer and songwriter John Prine, released in 1979. Pink Cadillac was produced by Knox Phillips and Jerry Phillips. Their father, legendary Sun Records founder Sam Phillips, produced two of the album's tracks. Recording took place at Sam Phillips Recording Studio in Memphis between January and May 1979. The album features Prine indulging his love for early rock and roll, with the singer telling David Fricke in 1993, I wanted to do something noisy. Pink Cadillac - John Prine. John Prine went to Sam Phillips' studio in Memphis to make his sixth album, Pink Cadillac, and got some of the Sun Records sound of 1950s rockabilly on a record produced by Phillips' sons Knox and Jerry. Slapback bass here, a Bo Diddley beat there, and an overall loose feel characterized music that may have been more fun to make than it is to listen to, even though it's quite entertaining. John Prine and producer Sam Phillips what could possibly go wrong For one thing, Prine was knee deep in alcoholism, and it showed in his song writing. He only wrote five of the ten songs on the album, and theyre mediocre by Prine standards. The only really memorable song is Killing the Blues , and it was written by Roly Salley.
