Only 13 titles were officially released - KISS, Hotter Than Hell, Destroyer, Rock And Roll Over, Love Gun, Dynasty, Unmasked, Music From The Elder, Killers, Creatures Of The Night, Lick It Up, Animalize & Asylum. Unnumbered copies are no counterfeit, nor unofficial. These are pressings done before the numbering started or right after. Manufactured at the same date by the same pressing plant. Perhaps promos? Dressed to Kill was never officially released as a picture disc.

It was an attempt on the part of the group to establish Kiss as credible artists, and also to reverse the trend of declining album sales and commercial popularity that had begun in 1979. Instead, the album further served to alienate the group's fan base and represents the lowest point commercially for the group. Kiss started recording Music From the Elder in March 1981, working in Toronto, New York City and guitarist Ace Frehley s home studio in Wilton, Conn. To prevent anyone from hearing what they were up to, Ezrin and the band worked in total isolation. Because of the need for numerous sessions with outside performers KISS didnt finish the album until September. The result was a dull mix of mediocre prog-rock that bears little resemblance to the quartet that gave us such iconic albums as Destroyer and Love Gun. The record company didnt like it, and changed the song order to emphasize potential singles, which meant the story was all out of order. The band didnt even have a proper tour to support the album, only making a couple of TV appearances. In the October 1993 issue of Goldmine Magazine, Gene and Paul rated their work.
