Sweet Revenge is the third album by American folk singer and songwriter John Prine, released in 1973. Sweet Revenge was produced by Arif Mardin and was mostly recorded at Quadraphonic Sound Studios in Nashville. As Prine biographer Eddie Huffman observes, Sweet Revenge was a full-band LP recorded in Tennessee, but the singer had grown dramatically as a vocalist and recording artist over the previous two years. He sounded fully integrated with the backing musicians this go-around. Two songs, Blue. Sweet Revenge - John Prine. Prine's third album is louder and more jaded than his first efforts, a set of rowdy country-rockers that tear along at a reckless speed. Sympathy takes a back seat to cynicism here, and while that strips the record of some depth, Prine's irreverence is consistently thrilling, making this one of his best. Album 1973 12 Songs. Sweet Revenge Q&A. Sweet Revenge is another fantastic album from John Prine. While his self-titled debut is a bonafide classic of the folk genre, this album mixes a country feel and harder sound with the folk. The songs are all top notch with strong melodies and memorable lyrics that paint a picture of real life. The most enduring tracks here are the melancholy Christmas In Prison, the comical Dear Abby, and the excellent story song Grandpa Was A Carpenter. Composers: John Prine. Angel from Montgomery.
