Interview stylized ĭnterview is the eighth album by British progressive rock band Gentle Giant. The album was released in 1976. It is a concept album conceived as a radio interview. Three of the tracks integrate brief interview sections which were staged in the studio. The title song has lyrics derived from the type of question and answer dialogue they had encountered while talking to the music press. The band was known for the complexity and sophistication of its music and for the varied musical skills of its members. All of the band members, except the first two drummers, were multi-instrumentalists. Interview is actually a concept album centering on a fictitious interview based upon the music business. There are the typical complex harmonies and intricate musical passages, but the real progress is in the group's expanded sound, thanks in large part to Kerry Minnear's stellar keyboard innovations. Although the songs are not as memorable as those on Free Hand, there isn't a weak one in the bunch, with the reggae-styled Give It Back being a standout. Interview is the album when Gentle Giant did not improve themselves. It's the Power and Glory quality, at least. At every album, GG seemed to go further and further, peeking at many points of their careers Free Hand being the last time. INTERVIEW must still be considered one of the great Gentle Giant albums, and part of the greater canon of prog. It doesn't meet the masterpiece level of some of its predecessors, but still comes highly recommended. The last great work of one of prog's greatest bands.
