Art Blakey. Different Drummers. Different Drummers is exactly that, two live sets featuring two different quintets driven in turn by two different jazz drummers, Art Blakey and Max Roach. Blakey's quintet, which includes Bill Hardman on trumpet, Jackie McLean on alto sax, Sam Dockery on piano and Spanky DeBrest on bass, was recorded in April 1957 in Minneapolis, while Roach's unit, with Kenny Dorham on trumpet, Hank Mobley on tenor sax, Ramsey Lewis on piano and George Morrow on bass, was tracked in concert on January 4, 1958 in Chicago.
