Album 2008 15 Songs. The conductors long experience of the operas gave his performances of the symphonies a drama and theatricality that makes them so appealing. His blending of period manners with modern instruments though with period brass gives these four works a freshness and modernity of approach, while also looking back to a scale that the composer would surely have recognized and appreciated. Beautifully recorded, this a classy collection of Mozarts greatest symphonies. The multi-award-winning partnership of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Sir Charles Mackerras was reunited in. The Scottish musicians play with a tight but relaxed ensemble, a bright but subtle tone, and an obvious affection for the man leading them they seem to be singing more than playing the scores.
