Taking its name from the 16th-century English cardinal, Thomas Wolsey, the groups reputation grew through its extensive study of music from the English Renaissance. Here we have the Gradualia propers for the Epiphany, music of the highest quality, while the 11 motets, many of them not otherwise available, include Byrd's exquisite setting of Domine ante to omne desiderium. Song Title. The Cardinall's Musick are quite different from the usual choral sound that one would normally associate with a disc devoted to the works of William Byrd. The most remarkable difference is that this choir are actually singing The sound is passionate and expressive, two qualities that are sadly lacking from a lot of the early music that is currently in vogue.
