The Complete John Peel Sessions is an album released by Scottish alternative band The Jesus and Mary Chain. It comprises the sessions the group recorded for the late Radio 1 DJ John Peel on his late night radio show from 23 October 1984 to 26 November 1989. Peel was an early supporter of the band and gave them well needed publicity which they were unable to gain from the majority of other DJs and music programs of the day who concentrated mostly on the Synthpop craze sweeping the 1980s. The Jesus and Mary Chain are a Scottish alternative rock band formed in East Kilbride in 1983. The band revolves around the songwriting partnership of brothers Jim and William Reid. After signing to independent label Creation Records, they released their first single Upside Down in 1984. Their debut album Psychocandy was released to critical acclaim in 1985 on major label WEA. The band went on to release five more studio albums before disbanding in 1999. They reunited in 2007. To favorites 0 Download album. Listen album. The Jesus and Mary Chain. Group Compilation. Two sessions from late 1988 and early 1989 feature versions comparable to the originals, although it remains a mystery why they decided to cover the Temptations' My Girl, sucking all of its life and approaching self-parody. Despite this small blemish, the collection makes for a fine feast. It functions as a decent way to get into the band, as well as a great way to get refamiliarized.
