This 30th-anniversary performance of the album at Glasgows Barrowlands doesnt convey quite the sense of risk that accompanied their early shows, but the cocktail of noise and melody has largely retained its potency. Its appeal lies in the way that it takes rock classicism the enticing grammar of tunes and harmonies and lashes it to the nose-cone of a rocketing cacophony whose eventual destination is never certain. Now playing . The Jesus and Mary Chain are a Scottish alternative rock band formed in East Kilbride in 1983. The band revolves around the songwriting partnership of brothers Jim and William Reid. After signing to independent label Creation Records, they released their first single Upside Down in 1984. Their debut album Psychocandy was released to critical acclaim in 1985 on major label WEA. The band went on to release five more studio albums before disbanding in 1999. They reunited in 2007. Live at Barrowlands is as much a kick to the groin as Psychocandy was on its release three decades ago. There was no template for the Jesus and Mary Chain to follow. Pitting the melodicism of California's Beach Boys against the grit of New York's Velvet Underground and the Ramones, the Scottish brothers William and Jim Reid were leather-clad rebels ready for a knife fight. A volatile concoction of warring siblings, distortion and swagger, Psychocandy, their 1985 debut, gutted listeners who willingly laid prostrate while bleeding out to this sonic concoction

I thought so as well, but from The Jesus And Mary Chain site:RSD Update... April 9 Hi folks. We know we promised you red vinyl for Record Store Day but due to the increased demand, our manufacturers were not able to fulfil all the quantities on red vinyl. But...there will be 340 copies in red available from selected stores in the UK only. These ultra-limited red vinyl’s will be like gold dust! If you find one, be sure to take a picture and send to us on facebook! The red copies will state 'red vinyl' on the sticker.March 10:To celebrate Record Store Day 2015 on April 18th Demon Music Group are releasing a limited edition coloured LP of Psychocandy Live. Barrowlands. Recorded as part of the Psychocandy 30th Anniversary Live tour in Scotland, the recording is cut to heavyweight 180-gram red vinyl by legendary engineer Noel Summerville ( My Bloody Valentine / The White Stripes) and sounds huge! 1500 copies are available worldwide via participating record stores!

Many thanks boxofstuff.I didn't catch this news at the time but at least this was published & the issue was addressed and people were notified of it (if they saw it). Knowing this now It softens the blow & don't feel as shortchanged now! Good stuff & thanks again.

Is it just me or did anyone else buy this expecting it to be "red vinyl" as described on the RSDUK2015 website? I've read another comment on here about this "red vinyl" issue which is great & most helpful (thank you!) but I can't help feeling a little disappointed & I hate to say it - perhaps we've even been deceived. Still It's a terrific record all the same - made all the better after seeing them live on the Psychocandy tour this year. This is the JAMC in excellent form whether on black or red vinyl.

So yours had a sticker that said Red vinyl but it was actually black huh? Dang, I just ordered one hoping it was red. Didn't realize the sticker was misleading.
