To coincide with asking radio stations to think about playing Reckoner Radiohead are breaking up the tune into pieces for you to remix.
The separate 'stems' (component parts of the song) from the song were available to purchase from iTunes. You could mix them in any way you like, either by adding your own beats and instrumentation, or just remixing the original parts.
If you purchased the 'stems' from iTunes during the two weeks they're available, you'll be sent an access code to a GarageBand file ready to open in GarageBand or Logic. However, you didn't need GarageBand to do a remix, all the stems were in iTunes Plus format and compatible with several music software platforms. The GarageBand file was emailed before October 8th 2008.
Finished mixes could be uploaded to www.radioheadremix.com/upload/ where the public listened and voted for their favourite remix (submissions ended October 23rd 2008). Radiohead listened to the best remixes.
