Come On Pilgrim is the debut mini-LP release by the American alternative rock band Pixies. Produced by Gary Smith, the album was released in September 1987 by 4AD. In March 1987, Pixies Black Francis, guitarlead vocals Kim Deal, bassvocals Joey Santiago, guitar David Lovering, drums, entered Boston's Fort Apache Studios with Fort Apache ownerrecord producer Gary Smith to record a demo tape. The resulting 17-song cassette, later dubbed The Purple Tape eventually found its way to Ivo Watts. This album combines The Pixies' first two releases, their 1987 debut mini-LP Come On Pilgrim and their first full-length LP, Surfa Rosa, released the following year. Surfer Rosa was one of the first records I worked on where I didnt know anybody involved before we got started. I was fairly green and I feel I was slightly overly ambitious in insinuating my own personality into that record. There were things I suggested that the band adopted that werent in their nature. To commemorate the 30th anniversary of Surfer Rosa's 1988 release, 4AD collected the album and its predecessor, the mini-album Come on Pilgrim, as Come on Pilgrim. It's Surfer Rosa. When it first came out the Pixies were on the vanguard of the 4AD label's sonic assault - or was it a sonic seduction Whatever it was, it was a perfect moment in time for this quirky, chunky album on its sumptuous, esoteric record label.
