Originally the flip of debut 45 'Wipe Out', and here on a 1966 UK Dot LP I've not seen anywhere else. Basically a re-release of their 'Wipe Out' album, but. Wipe Out is a tune written by Bob Berryhill, Pat Connolly, Jim Fuller and Ron Wilson. The tune was first performed and recorded by The Surfaris, who were elevated to international status with the release of the Surfer Joe and Wipe Out single. The tune also featured in the films Surf's Up and Dirty Dancing. The term 'wipeout' refers to a fall from a surfboard, especially one that looks painful. Bob Berryhill, Pat Connolly, Jim Fuller and Ron Wilson wrote the tune almost on the spot as a suitable B-side was needed for the intended &qu read. Wipe Out Rerecorded. Apparently, Wipe Out and Surfer Joe are the only songs The Surfaris actually played on the album Wipe Out. The others were performed by another surf-rock group called The Challengers. Over the years, The Surfaris occasionally reformed, and even re-recorded Wipe Out for a K-Tel album in the '70s. Barry from Sauquoit, NyOn July 24th 1966, Wipe Out by the Surfaris re-entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position 88. Three years earlier in 1963 it peaked at 2 for 1 week and spent 16 weeks on the Top 100. On its second time on the Top 100 in 1966 it would reached 16 and stay on the chart for 14 weeks, for a total of 30 weeks on the Top 100. Wipe Out was written and recorded by the quartet later that winter, with the song reaching 2 nationally in 1963 before becoming an international hit. Saxophone player Jim Pash joined after their Wipe Out, Surfer Joe recording sessions at Pal Studios. Ken Forssi, later of Love, played bass with The Surfaris after Pat Connolly. In 2015, he released a critically acclaimed album entitled The Surfaris Hurley Sessions. Pat Connolly left the music business in 1965.
