Album

Doolittle is the second studio album by the American alternative rock band Pixies, released in April 1989 on 4AD. The album's offbeat and dark subject material, featuring references to surrealism, Biblical violence, torture and death, contrasts with the clean production sound achieved by the newly hired producer Gil Norton. Doolittle was the Pixies' first international release, with Elektra Records as the album's distributor in the United States and PolyGram in Canada. But surely no band has pulled off a one-album show as triumphantly as the Pixies did here with a 20th-anniversary performance of their 1989 masterpiece Doolittle, a collection of songs of such exhilarating decadence, crazed urgency and melodic inspiration as to earn the Boston four-piece an imperishable place in the rock pantheon. Pixies are an American alternative rock band formed in early 1986 in Boston, Massachusetts. The original lineup consisted of Black Francis real name Charles Michael Kittridge Thompson IV vocals, guitar, Kim Deal bass, vocals 1986 to 2013, Joey Santiago guitar and Dave Lovering drums. Kim Deal left the band in 2013, and was briefly replaced for live performances by Kim Shattuck, before Paz Lenchantin joined the band as permanent bass player. So more good news from the Pixies camp the band who still rock it live, despite their increasing age and waist sizes will be touring Europe and the UK in October, playing every song from 1989s classic Doolittle, including the B-Sides from singles the album spawned. Sez Frank Black: We wanted to do something special for Doolittles 20th anniversary, and we thought this was a good opportunity to play all of the songs from that album, something we dont normally do at a regular gig. Hopefully they play some other stuff too and its not a straight-up Dont Look Back job. The Pixies arrived at Brixton's O2 Academy last night to begin a sold-out 4-night residency to play the album and its B-sides in its entirety. Despite the jarring ads urging fans to purchase memorabilia that formed part of the backdrop to the stage, a wave of adulation greeted the band as they emerged from back stage. The Pixies tour but rarely, and when playing most fans find themselves analysing the rapport between Frank Black and Kim Deal when on stage. The rift between the lead singer and the bassist led to the break-up of the band, but tonight there is no indication of conflict bet. Live at Brixton Academy Motörhead album.
