5, the. Although listed as Piano Concerto No. 5, the Concerto K. 175 is really Mozart's first completely independent composition of this form - the first four concertos were actually arrangements of works given to him by other composers. Along with this concerto, pianist Matthias Kirschnereit performs the subsequent K. 238 and K. 246 concertos on Volume Four of his collection of the Mozart concertos. The piano concertos of W. Mozart 1756-1791 stand as a lonely and magnificent peak in the history of music. Every one of his concertos is unique, a foray on unexplored musical territory pressing forward to new understandings of form and content. Matthias Kirschnereit is one of the leading German pianists of his generation. His international solo career has taken him to five continents. Kirschnereit's fascination with Mozart's piano concertos dates back to his youth. His first public appearance with an orchestra, at the age of twelve, was with a movement from a Mozart concerto. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wrote 23 original concertos for piano and orchestra. These works, many of which Mozart composed for himself to play in the Vienna concert series of 178486, held special importance for him. For a long time relatively neglected, they are recognised as among his greatest achievements. They were championed by Donald Francis Tovey in his Essay on the Classical Concerto in 1903, and later by Cuthbert Girdlestone and Arthur Hutchings in 1940 originally published in French and 1948. Aperto literally means open, an attribute often used in Mozart's early concertos, and while the exact meaning Mozart intended is unknown, it conveys radiance and gaiety, as the pianist Angela Hewitt notes. The development offers an episode of minor mode arpeggios and broken octaves in the piano, contrasted by plaintive intervals of the oboe. Girdlestone, Cuthbert 1948. Mozart's Piano Concertos. In even the four early Concertos, adapted from the music of Raupach, Honauer, Schobert and CPE Bach, he invests every phrase with the same microcosmic shades of expression that distinguish the later masterpieces. He extends the same degree of care to the orchestral parts as he does his own, so that one senses the sea change in the C minor central movement of K271 as a jewel of musical intensity. More than any other conductordirector he takes care to ensure that important inner voices violas especially illuminate the texture where appropriate. He produces a glowing yet articulate, luminescen. The Piano Concertos. Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Matthias Kirschnereit, Robert-Schumann-Philharmonie, Frank Beermann. Die Klavierkonzerte - The Piano Concertos Vol. 4 - The Early Concertos. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Matthias Kirschnereit, Bamberger Symphoniker, Frank Beermann. Chopin wrote two piano concertos in which the orchestra is very much relegated to an accompanying role. Schumann, despite being a pianist-composer, wrote a piano concerto in which virtuosity is never allowed to eclipse the essential lyrical quality of the work. The gentle, expressive melody heard at the beginning on woodwind and horns after the pianos heralding introductory chords bears the material for most of the argument in the first movement. Mozart's concerti for 2 pianos and 3 pianos, the Sinfonia concertante for violin and viola, and his concerto for flute and harp. 4 CD1 Concertos for Harpsichord, 2 Violins & Basso Continuo, KV 107 Nos 1-2-3 After Johann Christian Bach Op. 5 Nos. The piano almost takes back seat in the long opening movement, Allegro maestoso, but comes into its own in the final Allegretto, with some playful melodies very well played by Derek Han. Géza Anda set down his cycle of Mozart piano concertos, in which he also directed the Camerata Academica of the Salzburg Mozarteum, in the years 1961 and 1969. If you've heard all or part of the set in previous CD issues, the first thing you'll notice about these newly-reprocessed transfers is how much finer they sound. However, Anda plays the early concertos, Nos. Ehnes glides effortlessly through the intoxicating melodies of Violin Concerto No. 3, capturing their elegance as he navigates the works exquisite textures and harmonies, themselves gorgeously tackled by the Mozart Anniversary Orchestra
