Lucifer II LUCIFER. not surprisingly, Lucifer II works so well because of Sadonis presence: Its her singing that ropes listeners in, and more than the previous album and the Oaths sole 2014 album as well, theres a lot more personality and passion coming from that voice. Much like Avatariums post-Edling direction, the band is more upfront about their 70s rock and psychedelic influences this time around. Lucifer II is about even to I in quality songwriting and is just as breezy a listen, leaving the winner up to personal preference. The transition shouldnt be too jarring for established listeners and fans of groups like Avatarium, Psychedelic Witchcraft, and Blood Ceremony are strongly encouraged to check this one out. My favourite occult rock group returns with their second album. A new lineup, a similar hard rock sound, with a bit less doom than the first lp. Overall a bit more suave and subtle than the first album, with more variation and more of an eye on the audience and charts. Pleasingly the recording and mastering are significantly better than Lucifer 1, albeit not in a different league. There are a couple of sure fire radio hits here: "California Son" and "Dreamer". The fact that they weren't big hits says more about the world today than the record. Sadonis hits her notes, proving that the earlier album was no fluke and that she has the pipes for this sound. A decent recording and mastering job, though a bit on the dull side and has a limited soundstage. I think that Lucifer are up there with Witchcraft and Blood Ceremony in the "occult rock" genre. The neat thing is that occult rock didn't really exist as a genre in the 70s, though of course Led Zeppelin and Coven and Black Sabbath practised their own versions of it, so whilst these current bands are retro, they hark back to a phantasy. A fantasy about a fantasy, a fiction about a fiction, making now what they wanted to have existed then. In other words, not as retro as it might seem at first glance. So whilst this record owes a lot to Sabbath, Heart, Fleetwood Mac, and doesn't have a particularly original sound, it is still quite contemporary. What I particularly like is how fun this record is; it makes it clear how dark and depressing a lot of rock and metal is these days - inevitable given the times I guess. This record is having a good time, even if ship earth is sinking. Not a naive good time, but a good time nevertheless. A recommended record.

Great sounding pressing, noise free, no pops, no clicks no nothing, dead quiet vinyl. Mastering is also good to my ears- bass is punchy and you can hear all the instruments. Great album.
