The performances are mostly drawn from sessions by Venuti's Blue Four with some of the soloists including Jimmy Dorsey switching between clarinet, alto, trumpet and baritone, Frankie Trumbauer on C-melody sax and bassoon, bass-saxophonist Adrian Rollini and, on Sweet Lorraine, clarinetist Benny Goodman. Considered the father of jazz violin, he pioneered the use of string instruments in jazz along with the guitarist Eddie Lang, a friend since childhood.
