Elastica is the debut studio album by English alternative rock band Elastica. It was released on 14 March 1995 through Deceptive Records. The album was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize. The album was well-received critically. The Radio One Sessions is a compilation of BBC Radio One sessions recorded by Britpop group Elastica. Westwood One was an American radio network that was based in New York City. At one time, it was managed by CBS Radio, and was later purchased by the private equity firm, The Gores Group. Due to purchases, mergers and other forms of consolidation in the 1980s and 1990s, at one time or another, it had ownership stakes in or syndication rights to some of the most famous brands in network radio, including CBS, NBC, Mutual, CNN, Fox and Unistar. The company was one of the largest producers and distributors. By contrast, Elasticas first album packed 15 loud and fast tracks into 40 minutes. They had no interest in mimicking Blurs droll eclecticism or Suedes orchestral glam, either. The pithy songs on Elastica, with their searing lyrics about sex, groupies, and ennui, capture the whirlwind of the early-90s Britpop explosion. Elasticas influences may have secured them a wider audience, but they also got the band into a lot of well-publicized trouble. Wire sued them, charging that Line Up too closely resembled one of their best-known songs, I Am the Fly, while Elasticas biggest hit, Connection, stole a riff from Wires Three Girl Rhumba.
