While Ebo Taylor's name is not familiar to most as one of the pioneers of Afro-beat, it should be. Taylor, the Ghanian composer, arranger, guitarist, and vocalist has been making music since the 1950s, and studied with Fela Kuti at the Eric Guilder School of Music in London from 1962 until 1965. Rather than go the solo path, he opted instead for Accra's studio scene, where he appeared on dozens of singles and albums. He cut a self-titled solo album in 1977 on the local label Essiebons. Ebo Taylor was a star of highlife and Afrobeat in Ghana throughout the 70s, but his 2010 international debut launched him to global renown. On Love & Death, hes backed by members of Berlins Afrobeat Academy band, who gamely tackle elaborate horn riffs amid subtle interplays of drums and bass on Victory and Nga Nga. The instrumental Kwame unfurls with a beautiful guitar lead, while the title track is a haunting remake of a Taylor classic about loves agonies. Love & Death Ebo Taylor. Strut link up with one of the true greats of Ghanaian music, Ebo Taylor, for his first ever internationally released studio album. Following the wartime big band highlife pioneers like E. Mensah, Taylor became a major figure in Ghanaian highlife during the 1950s and 60s as highlife exploded. Cutting his teeth with leading big bands like Stargazers and Broadway Dance Band, Ebo Taylor quickly rose through the ranks and became a prolific composer and frontman. Taylor moved to London in 1962 to study. Strut Records. Ebo Taylor- Love And Death. His album Love And Death on Strut will be his first internationally distributed solo album. Backed by Berlin's Afrobeat Academy, the album is packed with pure fire from a true original. Enjoy the title track. More info at . During the 1970s, Ebo Taylor was one of the leading lights of Ghana's guitar highlife and Afrobeat scenes. He had a productive solo career and was one of the stars of the Apagya Show Band supergroup- his contributions as guitarist and bandleader helped define the sound that we associate with 70s Ghana today. But it wasn't until this past decade that Taylor gained any kind of notoriety outside of West Africa. Soundway Records included his songs, both on his own and with Apagya, on its groundbreaking Ghana Soundz compilations, and he stood out as a guy with his own sound. Ebos early work was featured on the excellent Soundway compilation Ghana Special, which included his sturdy, brass-backed Twer Nyame, from back in 1977. He certainly played an important role in Ghanas musical history, with a style thats ranged from jazz and highlife to Afrobeat he was massively influenced by Fela Kuti. But he should still be considered as a major and influential musical force

This is my first Strut record, and I am very impressed. Excellent pressing, no pops or hissing, very quiet noise floor. Great sound.
