Initially released via Nude Records in 1997. When Nude first closed its doors in 2001, One Little Indian bought the rights to some of its back catalogue. This later repress on One Little Indian is almost identical to the original 1997 release, except for featuring the OLI logo in place of Nude's.

Ex-Associate Billy Mackenzie was working on the tracks which comprise Beyond the Sun when he committed suicide, leaving this planned comeback bid unfinished the Cocteau Twins' Simon Raymonde, among others, completed the demos for release, and the results are frequently impressive, if bittersweet. Beyond the Sun is the eleventh studio album by Chris Isaak, released through Vanguard Records on October 18, 2011. It is a collection of songs recorded by Sun Records artists Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis. Some of the songs were originally released on Sun Records. Billy Mackenzie, best remembered as founder member of Scottish band The Associates, committed suicide in January 1997 before Beyond the Sun was finished. The boss of Nude Records, Saul Gaulpern, oversaw it's completion, and he commissioned ornate piano, guitar and string section overdubs to add colour to the initial recordings.
