Clarinet Quartet No. 1 in E flat, Op. Poco adagio: Allegro. Bernhard Henrik Crusell. Henk de Graaf, Emma Johnson. Finnish-Swedish composer Bernhard Henrik Crusell, active in the early nineteenth century, has received several recordings after decades of near-total obscurity. They reveal a composer who made something original out of the language of late Viennese Classicism, tying the sprawling sonata movements of Hummel, a measured influence of Beethoven, and hints of Romantic drama Crusell made a living as an opera musician into compact movement structures. Bernhard Henrik Crusell 15 October 1775 28 July 1838 was a Swedish-Finnish clarinetist, composer and translator, the most significant and internationally best-known Finnish-born classical composer and indeed, - the outstanding Finnish composer before Sibelius. Crusell was born in Uusikaupunki Swedish: Nystad, Finland, into a poor family of bookbinders. His grandfather, Bernhard Kruselius had learned the trade of bookbinding in Turku and Stockholm, then settled in Pori where he fathered nine. Listen free to Bernhard Henrik Crusell Crusell, B.
