I first discovered Zuzu's Petals when I was a freshman in college in Iowa of all places. I came across the band's debut album When No One's Looking at a local record store, seeking something that was not part of the mainstream. What I heard was a pop-punk fan's dream come true. When No One's Looking is chockful of pop-punk melodies but maintains a less than polished sound. Zuzu's Petals reminded me of Mazzy Star but with an edgier sound.
