Ferocious in its intensity, it sounds fresh and exciting, two words used sparingly in Malmsteen's later years. His frequent use of guest vocalists has never been a sore point for fans of the Swedish egotist, and his sole lead vocal on the bluesy Freedom Isn't Free is a fine example of why like a froggish cross between David Lee Roth and Huey Lewis, his gruff voice straddles the fence between curio and car wreck. The album reached No. 14 on the Swedish albums chart, No. 60 on the US Billboard 200, and received a nomination for Best Rock Instrumental Performance at the 1986 Grammy Awards. Majestic Blue is a nice instrumental that redeems the album a little bit, but again it is right in the very centre of Malmsteen's comfort zone and thus offers no surprises. Despite a couple of decent numbers towards the end of the album, it never recovers from the weak middle tracks. And with a total running time well over an hour, it becomes tedious towards the end. It would have benefitted considerably from being reduced to about half its length. For fans and collectors.
