The Yes Album is the third studio album by English progressive rock band Yes, released on 19 February 1971 by Atlantic Records. It was the band's first album to feature guitarist Steve Howe, who replaced Peter Banks in 1970, as well as their last to feature keyboardist Tony Kaye until 1983's 90125. The album was the first by the band not to feature any cover versions of songs. The band spent mid-1970 writing and rehearsing new material at a farmhouse at Romansleigh, Devon, and the new songs were. Classic Yes. Chris Squire, Jon Anderson, Bill Bruford. Classic Yes - Yes. The Yes discography can be a cumbersome beast. Yes has traversed an impressive amount of stylistic ground through the decades too, from the relatively raw, post-psychedelic sound of their beginnings to their classic 70s prog peak, their new wave-informed 80s reinvention, and beyond. The key to this collection is in the title: this is the band's classic music. Anything prior to The Yes Album is cut out, no attempt is made to salvage snippets from Relayer or Tales from Topographic Oceans Drama and Tormato are dispensed with. What remains is what made this band great: the science fiction and fantasy-laced epics, the tangible wizardry of their arrangements, moments that crystallized the magical power of music, and two unreleased live tracks from 1978 that find the band tethered to the realm of mortals. Originally released as a single LP with a bonus 7-inch 33 13 RPM disc featuring live versions of Roundabout and I've Seen All Good People from 1978, everything has been compiled onto one handy CD. It was taken out of circulation by 2003. Although it was initially not a strong seller, Classic Yes ultimately went platinum in the US and still remains the ideal entry point for Yes novices. Its very similar to their classic album Close to the Edge in song structure. Long suite, then 2 9 minute or so songs. The beginning Suite Gates of Delirium is in my opinion Yes's most masterfully written progressive song. It has a very peaceful vibe until you reach the classic progressive breakdown at the center of the song. The breakdown sounds like an epic battle, and the band even rolled trash cans around in the studio. Sound Chase
