There is uncertainty over his birth year although his gravestone shows 1910, researchers Bob Eagle and Eric LeBlanc conclude, on the basis of a 1920 census entry, that he was probably born in 1903. James Yank Rachell was the primary exponent of blues mandolin, although he also played guitar, violin, harp and sang expertly well. His mandolin truly shakes things up and breathes new life into a clutch of venerable blues standards. Chicago Style is exactly pieces played by a legend in the jazz mandolin in a distinct style I haven't heard elsewhere.
