The indie-rock trio take some time to breathe on their slightly slowed-down, stretched-out third album. New drummer Fiona Campbell helps ease back the tempo from a sprint to a gallop on the fuzzy, psych-tinged workouts The Other Girls and Light in Your Eyes. The wallop of noise from their first two albums is also tempered, pushing Cassie Ramone's noodling guitar and deadpan charm into the spotlight, especially when they bounce off Katy Goodman's mocking pleas on the sugary girl-group spoof Take It As It Comes. 10 tracks 35:29. They got a new drummer Fiona Campbell, who has a more powerful playing style and helps add some punch to the bottom end. They found a producer, Jarvis Taveniere of Woods, who helped give their sound some depth and space, boosting the drums and Cassie Ramone's charmingly Olive Oil-esque vocals while giving the guitars some room to breathe. Vivian Girls is the debut studio album by American indie rock band Vivian Girls, released on September 30, 2008, by In the Red Records. NME wrote that between the omnipresent slabs of reverb, the trio flip between harmonic garage rock, gloomy melodies and twee-Birthday Partyisms.
