It is considered the definitive album from the Boston hardcore scene, as several of its most prominent bands appear on the record, namely, Jerry's Kids, the Proletariat, the Groinoids, the F. s, Gang Green, Decadence, and the Freeze. For them, with the exception of the later, This Is Boston, Not L. was also their debut release. Al Barile's band, SSD, were asked to contribute, but they refused to participate. I first heard of This Is Boston, Not L. the classic hardcore punk compilation from the NOFX song We Got Two Jealous Agains. Recently, I stumbled across it on and decided to order it. Little did I know what I was in for. Like the title and album cover suggests, this is a compilation of Boston's seven most prominent hardcore punk bands from back in the early 80s. Those bands are Jerry's Kids, the Proletariat, Groinoids, the F. Besides the political, UK-influenced Proletariat, all of these bands play at breakneck speeds and sing with and about adolescent rage. My favourite band on the comp is Gang Green. The Freeze. Selfish - Gang Green. Empty Skull - Groinoids. Of course, many unique sounding bands sprang up from the various cities but, overall, there were regional sounds. When you listen to this CD you can definitely tell that it's not from Southern California or Seattle or D. I'm not quite sure how to describe how they sound different. Maybe it's about beer. So it's common for bands to be on a compilation album with one to several songs
