Album

Urgh A Music War is a 1982 British film featuring performances by punk rock, new wave, and post-punk acts, filmed in 1980. Among the artists featured in the film are Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark OMD, Magazine, The Go-Go's, Toyah Willcox, The Fleshtones, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, X, XTC, Devo, The Cramps, Oingo Boingo, Dead Kennedys, Gary Numan, Klaus Nomi, Wall of Voodoo, Pere Ubu, Steel Pulse, Surf Punks, 999, The Alley Cats, UB40, Echo & the Bunnymen and The Police. These were many of the. The record is subtitled A Music War. But the British bands that dominate the album were battling the social and economic woes of the U. as much as rebelling against the commerciality and smugness in popular rock music emanating from the States. The lineup features a smorgasbord of cutting-edge new wave bands in hot live outings in the U. and U. While much of the music is period-dated, the performances are heartfelt and hold up surprisingly well. B1: Virgin Music Publishers Ltd. URGH a Music War was first a film and double LP soundtrack. It was released back in 1982, when I was first getting my feet wet in British and American post-punk music. The film itself is great, showcasing a variety of acts all under the loose umbrella of New Wave from the power-pop of the Police, the Go-Go's, and XTC, to the electro musings of Gary Numan, and the totally uncatagorizable, sadly missed and WAY ahead of his time Klaus Nomi. Each group was shown playing one song each, and the film hops all over the globe, from New York, Santa Monica, to Paris and London.
