This soundtrack album of music from and inspired by the film alternates songs by Ross, many of which appear in the film, with classical music performances by Singer, alone and with a quartet. The Short Cuts Soundtrack was released in 1993 as the soundtrack album for the film Short Cuts. The album was released by the Imago Recording Company. Several well-known musicians provided material for this album, including Bono and The Edge from U2, Elvis Costello and Iggy Pop. Michael Stipe from . makes a guest vocal appearance on one track. Most of the songs are performed by jazz singer Annie Ross, who appears in the film. Actress Lori Singer performs cello on three classical compositions. Released as a companion to Shawn Lee's superb documentary on the pioneers of Library Music - the simply titled 'The Library Music Film' - this killer compilation draws together pieces selected by some of the many DJs and producers who contributed to the movie. With lots of decidedly obscure tracks plucked from the catalogue of such legendary music libraries as KPM, Music De Wolffe, Bosworth and Tele Music. As a companion piece to the film or on its own, The Hurricane is a worthwhile album, uniting classic and contemporary R&B, soul, and hip-hop into a gripping musical statement.
