The Best of Woodstock is a 1-CD live compilation album of the 1969 Woodstock Festival in Bethel, New York. Its release marked the 25th Anniversary of the festival. It contains tracks which were already released on the original Woodstock: Music from the Original Soundtrack and More album. Shortly after the album's release, Atlantic Records released a much longer 4-CD box set entitled Woodstock: Three Days of Peace and Music, which contained tracks from the original album, Woodstock 2, and numerous. The Best of Woodstock is far from a thorough overview of the festival - some of the artists aren't represented by their most enduring material, and, after all, you can't cover three days' worth of music in just one disc. Despite those limitations, the sampler does contain some of the festival's best moments, like Country Joe & the Fish's I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-to-Die Rag and Jimi Hendrix's Star Spangled Banner and Purple Haze. In the absence of the actual Woodstock album, this can be an affordable substitute. The Best of Woodstock is a budget compilation of the Woodstock festival spanning only one CD. There are some highlights included but it also misses a lot of great songs. It's rather recommended to take a look at the Woodstock box set which overall gives a better impression of the festival.
