This 6 CD collection was packaged in a box designed to look like the type people used in the 1960's to carry their 45 rpm records in. Each CD is printed with artwork resembling the labels Stax, Cadet, Atco, Motown, Tamla and Atlantic. They attach to a plastic insert that is shaped like a 45 rpm record that is then slipped into a cardboard "record sleeve". This collection comes with a 15 page booklet of liner notes and a box of 144 cards measuring 2.5" x 3.5" with a full color picture and brief biography of each artist.

Well from time to time I had checked for the best price on the internet at different sites and it was always priced crazy high. Almost 20 years down the line - Beg, Scream & Shout is of course showing its age and in 2014 you could probably buy three 2CD Soul sets for half-the-price and get roughly the same. Whatever

This is the finest collection of Soul Music from the 60's I have ever heard. Rhino has found the best available source material and every carefully selected track sounds as clean and crisp as the day it was made. The song selections are outstanding and may send you down many rabbit holes searching for more like this. Each artist has only one song (unless they appear again in a duet or group) and the only obvious selection here IMO is Stand By Me by Ben E. King, which I thought I had had enough of, but somehow it sounds new and fresh here. The time frame ('60-'69) allows for one to hear some giant steps being made in the genre. Superb in every respect.
