Album

Altamont: Black Stringband Music from the Library of Congress captures recordings from two African-American string bands - the duo of fiddler Frank Patterson and banjoist Nathan Frazier and the John Lusk String Band featuring fiddler Lusk, banjoist Murph Gribble, and guitarist Albert York. This album brings to light the unique pre-war black stringband style that disappeared with the commercial division of white and black markets. Recorded in the mid-'40s, the two groups on this album, the duo of fiddler Frank Patterson and banjoist Nathan Frazier, and the driving band headed by fiddler John Lusk, offer a tantalizing glimpse into a lost world.
