While 's Octaves & Tremulos comes closest to blissed-out, most of the tracks on this album keep an unerring eye on the dancefloor and it's rigorous demands. For instance, Kenny Larkin's Spike cuts deep with elastic basslines and warm Detroit chords that caress you like honey, the tune wiggling it's dirty way to the end. Most of the label's releases can rightly be called classics. For instance, Vapourspace's Gravitational Arch of Ten remains one of the most soulful of all techno records. And who could not be wowed by Kenny Larkin's sumptuous bleep-n-beat roller, Colony These three compilation discs break down the seven years of Plus 8's existence, there's a definite sense of a house style that comes with listening to them in succession. Hawtin's roster kept to the cyber-Detroit blueprint drawn up by Juan Atkins and Derrick May. In the label's life, it didn't. Froststalker

Well, this backcatalogue contains a lot of classics which were sure important for development of techno. My favourites are track no.6 (a legend!), 11 & 16 (what an athmosphere in it, no wonder that the track was published on Warp too!). Really essential retrospective for those who didn't know Plus 8 until today.

For the last 10 years, the Plus 8 label, the brainchild of Richie Hawtin and John Acquaviva, has never abandoned its militant and single minded stance to music and artist development. Resolutely independent and fiercely determined, Plus 8 was conceived as a forward thinking & progressive label that refused to pander to whim or fashion. This compilation chronicles the labels development from its awkward adolescence through to its celebrated maturity.
