Here, Ford and Burton are challenging their audience, the fans who loved the upbeat melodies of The Faithful Anchor and were charmed by the sweet fairy-tale aspects of Marionette. Unwed Sailor is an American, mostly instrumental band, formed in 1998 by Johnathon Ford, with recordings that range from instrumental rock to ambient drones. The band's touring and recording lineups have largely been in rotation over the years, with the core member being bassist Ford. Unwed Sailor has consistently toured throughout the United States and Europe since its inception in 1998. On The White Ox, Unwed Sailor have pushed the instrumental post-rock experimentalism to its limit. Past records, such as 2003's Marionette and the Music Box, and the Circles EP have hinted at the hushed dynamics, restrained guitars, a certain gray dreaminess, and spacious production that appear in such abundance here.
