Thielemans launched his career as a guitarist for Benny Goodmans band on the bandleaders European tours of 1949 and 1950. In 1952, he moved to the United States. There, he was soon touring and recording with many celebrated artists, including Charlie Parkers All-Stars, Ella Fitzgerald, Quincy Jones, and Stevie Wonder. Thielemans also joined the staff of the ABC Network in New York City, New York, and was featured on The Jimmy Dean Show for a number of years. Thielemans would later be known by many as the greatest harmonica player of the 20th century. Jean-Baptiste Frédéric Isidor, Baron Thielemans 29 April 1922 22 August 2016, known professionally as Toots Thielemans, was a Belgian jazz musician. He was known for his harmonica playing, as well as his guitar, whistling skills, and composing. According to jazz historian Ted Gioia, his most important contribution was in championing the humble harmonica, which Thielemans made into a legitimate voice in jazz. He eventually became the preeminent jazz harmonica player
