Okoshi's fine trumpet playing is matched with a great group of players, including Kenny Barron on piano and Hank Roberts on cello. The result is an outstanding recording of great jazz. From the original title track, with its subtle shadings, to the percolating interpretation of Night in Tunisia that closes the album, the music is alive with passion and imagination. Track Listing. Color of Soil features the unusual instrumental combination of Tiger Okoshi on trumpet and flugelhorn, Kenny Barron on piano, Jay Anderson on bass, Mino Cinelu on drums and percussion, and-here's what makes it unusual-Hank Roberts on cello. Recorded with crystalline clarity using JVC's XRCD2 process, the music on this CD is focused, serious, intense, but always quite listenable and rewarding. Several of the compositions on this CD were inspired by the Kobe earthquake of 1995, which Okoshi experienced firsthand as he was staying in his family's home that fateful January day.
