Album

Dial-A-Song: 20 Years Of They Might Be Giants is a 2002 compilation album by They Might Be Giants issued by Rhino Records and compiled by singer, songwriter, and guitarist John Flansburgh. Despite its name, the compilation does not include tracks from the band's Dial-A-Song service. It is instead an anthology of various album and live tracks from the band's history, spanning their full career up to the time of its release. It includes tracks from every album starting with 1986's They Might Be Giants. They Might Be Giants often abbreviated as TMBG is an American alternative rock band formed in 1982 by John Flansburgh and John Linnell. During TMBG's early years, Flansburgh and Linnell frequently performed as a duo, often accompanied by a drum machine. In the early 1990s, TMBG expanded to include a backing band. The duo's current backing band consists of Marty Beller, Dan Miller, and Danny Weinkauf. The group is known for their uniquely experimental and absurdist style of alternative music. Instead, this RhinoElektra set is two discs and 52 songs of highlights from They Might Be Giants' absurdly prolific two-decade career. Throwing chronology out the window, this set cheerfully zig-zags through the BarNone and Elektra records alike, hitting most of the highlights while adding just a couple of rarities and those are primarily live tracks. Nightgown of the Sullen Moon Might Be Giants major label debut was one of the biggest surprises of the emerging alternative rock scene in 1990. Because of Flood, TMBG graduated from their home recording roots to a full studio setup and the band took full advantage of the sonic possibilities. A few years back we released a set of pre-production recordings that would become the John Henry album. Created with long time collaborator Patrick Dillett and our evolving live band, many of the tracks have previously been passed around the internet, often in compromised fidelity. Upon giving the material a closer listen, it only seemed fair that this bit of history got a better airing. Producer They Might Be Giants. She Was A Hotel Detective. I bought Dial a Song expecting a run-of-the-mill best of compilation, hoping to fill in the cracks in my small collection of Giants recordings. Well imagine my surprise to find a beautifully assembled compilation of the best of They Might be Giants I mean this in the sense that they didn't just pick out their most popular recordings, but truly the BEST of their recordings. And they didn't stop there
