The Yes Album is the third studio album by English progressive rock band Yes, released on 19 February 1971 by Atlantic Records. It was the band's first album to feature guitarist Steve Howe, who replaced Peter Banks in 1970, as well as their last to feature keyboardist Tony Kaye until 1983's 90125. The album was the first by the band not to feature any cover versions of songs. The band spent mid-1970 writing and rehearsing new material at a farmhouse at Romansleigh, Devon, and the new songs were. Yes is the eponymous debut studio album by English rock band Yes, released on 25 July 1969 by Atlantic Records. After forming in mid-1968, the band toured extensively across the United Kingdom with sets formed of original material and rearranged cover versions. They signed with Atlantic in early 1969, and entered Advision and Trident Studios in London to record their first album. Yes includes covers of Every Little Thing by the Beatles and I See You by the Byrds. The Yes Album. On Yes' first two albums, Yes 1969 and Time and a Word 1970, the quintet was mostly searching for a sound on which they could build, losing one of their original members - guitarist Peter Banks - in the process. Their third time out proved the charm - The Yes Album constituted a de facto second debut, introducing the sound that would carry them forward across the next decade or more. Gone are any covers of outside material, the group now working off of its own music from the ground up. The Yes Album is when the band definitively found the distinct sound that they built upon with later albums Fragile and Close to the Edge. This used to be my favorite yes album and it is the album that got me into the band. It is a very easy listen that is more reminiscent of when the band was becoming prog rock. But if you can't get into the first couple songs, your in for a treat with the epic finale that is Awaken. This one is easily one of their most underrated as well. People ignore this one because it is one of Yes's newer albums that doesn't feature Anderson on vocals. But this and the great comeback album Magnification have both a great sound, and amazing songs.
