Sure, it's possible to spot omissions from that list, but it gives the general feel of pop's progression, and it offers nothing but good listening as it does so. And that's a testament not only to the artists, but to Columbia, Epic, and Sony, since few other labels have captured the times quite so well. The Tremeloes are an English beat group founded in 1958 in Dagenham, Essex. They initially found success in the British Invasion era with lead singer Brian Poole, scoring a UK chart-topper in 1964 with Do You Love Me. After Poole's departure in 1966, the band achieved further success as a four-piece with 13 Top 40 hits on the UK Single Chart between 1967 and 1971 including Here Comes My Baby, Even the Bad Times Are Good, Call Me Number One, Me and My Life and their most successful single. Pre-Elvis gems such as Sinatra's Birth of the Blues sit alongside unforgivable schlock by Miller and the Four Lads before rock & roll-based pop finally shakes things up. Fans of pop music would do well to consider this two CD set. It's constructed in such a way that even the tunes you don't know will entertain you a lot. I am baffled as to why this is currently out of print and I hope that changes soon. Something interesting about the album is that it's primarily the more adult-aimed music, and then suddenly, it switches to the sixties-style pop.
