Tony Williams. Easily the weirdest record the Tony Williams Lifetime ever released, 1971's Ego is an experimental blend of post-hard bop jazz and the spacier end of psychedelic rock. Larry Young's wafting organ parts and Ted Dunbar's rockist guitar as opposed to the more traditional jazz bent of the guy he replaced, John McLaughin combine to make parts of the album sound like Atom Heart Mother-era Pink Floyd, particularly on There Comes a Time and Lonesome Wells Gwendy Trio. The Tony Williams Lifetime was a jazz fusion group led by jazz drummer Tony Williams. The Tony Williams Lifetime was founded in 1969 as a power trio with John McLaughlin on electric guitar, and Larry Young on organ. The band was possibly named for Williams' debut album as a bandleader, Life Time, released on Blue Note in 1965. Its debut album was Emergency, a double album released on PolydorPolyGram Records in 1969. It was largely rejected by jazz listeners at the time of its release because of its.
