It's actually quite brilliant. The lyrics are simple and the music is mesmerising. Guaranteed to be an anthem all over summer 2016. It's the natural transition from the 5 years that the Roses were "missing" between the first two albums. A continuation of One Love and not as heavy as Driving South. This is what should have happened in 1991 and it would have made The Second Coming sound perfect as a third album. If this is the first offering the album will be epic.

Best West
The overall feel of the new Stone Roses single, which was released rather suddenly on May 12, 2016, drops it squarely into that fertile, positive era for the group after their debut debut album when they released "What the World is Waiting For", "One Love", and "Something's Burning". I think Ian Brown's lyrics could be better here and the production could be more sympathetic. The clean sound makes it veer a bit too close to a few early Seahorses songs ("Love Is the Law" comes to mind immediately) where John was obviously trying to keep Roses fans on board with his then-new project in 1996. But the vibe of this song is good, the overall sound is warm and welcome, and it has very classic melodic lines. I bet it'd sound far better on vinyl—the iTunes mastering on the version I'm listening to is sort of compressed and doesn't do the squeaky-clean mix any favors.
