Music video by The Sisters of Mercy performing Lucretia My Reflection C 1987 is The Sisters of Mercy's 2nd full length cd which came out in 1987. I think it's one of their best cd's. This is also one of my favorite bands, My Reflection made famous by Sisters Of Mercy. Lucretia My Reflection is a song by English rock band the Sisters of Mercy. Released as the third and final single from their second studio album, Floodland, in June 1988, it peaked at number 20 on the UK Singles Chart. The song was written by Andrew Eldritch for Patricia Morrison, who, he said, always strikes me as a Lucrezia -type person. Its lyrics concern the fall of an empire, war and the consequent destruction of other aspects of life. All songs written by Andrew Eldritch. Lucretia herself is often cited as a murderer with a penchant for poison. Lead singer Andrew Eldritch wrote the track for bandmate Patricia Morrison bass, who always strikes me as a Lucrezia -type person. The lyrics once a railroad, now it's done are a reference to Brother, Can You Spare A Dime, a 1932 song about the disastrous effect the Great Depression had on the American way of life. The American punk rock band Alkaline Trio covered this on the 2005 album The Suicide Girls: Black Heart Retrospective. Album 1988 2 Songs. The Sisters of Mercy. Rock 1988. I hear the roar of a big machine Two worlds and in between Hot metal and methedrine I hear empire down. I hear empire down. The song as a whole is also a metaphor for the reformation of the Sisters of Mercy after the other two band members left to form The Mission. Eldritch wrote Floodland on his own and contracted Patricia Morrison to play bass for the tracks. See the relevant annotation for full details. Lucretia My Reflection Track Info.
