Snubnose is the rare concept album that manages not to drown under the weight of its own pretension. Brisk and violent, East Atlantas Grip fashions a tight project about the magnetic allure and repulsion of firearms. The demonic and high-pitched voice of the anthropomorphized Snubnose appears across the album. At points the alien-like vocals dip into territories of annoyance, but what always saves the proceedings is Grips deceptively complex level of detail. I was 10 years old when this came out, & heard it the same year on the K-Tel Breakdance album (!!), yup, the one with the poster showing you how to moonwalk (Still can't f***ng do it!!) The LP featured an edited version of 'Kids Rap', which for me, along with the Party Mix version, just doesn't cut it on a Rap angle. Head straight for the Street mix for a dedicated DJ Whiz work out- yep, the same US Whiz from G.L.O.B.E. & Whiz Kid, which for me makes this a bit special. Overlooked & featuring a great cut up instrumental which still sounds fresh as.

Check what MC Early Daze had to say via You Tube:

"Early Daze is me. I was 15 and still at Holland Park school. I was payed £150 to rap those lyrics, they were pre written- some shit about the teacher telling us pull up our socks coz if we don't we won't pass our mocks- Man I nearly didn't do it coz I was a budding mc and that was some wac shit. But put your voice on vinyl with Whizz Kid and Mastermind plus 150 squid?"

Fair play!
