On the original album Joe was limited to Hammond organ only, so for this session we decided to furnish him with a load of vintage pianos and a Prophet 5 analogue synthesizer, and we picked the tunes accordingly. Six Underground As the title neatly implies, this album is a sequel to our 2016 release The Nashville Session. Since we were touring in the neighbourhood and had a day off, it made sense to dash back into the same studio to lay down some more live cuts. The recording accurately documents the way the band sounded in mid-2018, at which point The New Mastersounds had been together for nearly twenty years and released twelve previous studio albums. The compositions presented here are all NMS originals, with two exceptions: our arrangement of John Cameron's KPM cult classic Afro Metropolis and a jammed-out instrumental version of the Sneaker Pimps song Six Underground. During a tour pitstop in June 2018 The New Mastersounds returned to Welcome To 1979 studios in Nashville, TN to record a follow-up to their 2016 live-in-studio album The Nashville Session. The band performed 15 tunes in front of a small invited audience, recorded them straight to tape using tasty vintage gear, and selected 8 favourites to go onto a vinyl LP, adding two more for the CD and digital releases. Their live set was recorded and mixed directly onto stereo tape reels on a hot summer evening in front of an invited studio audience, members of whom took turns either to watch in th. Over the last 16 years, they have issued ten studio albums, two live dates, two remix collections, and a compilation album.
