Arthur Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire, often referred to as just Arthur, is the seventh studio album by English rock band the Kinks, released in October 1969. Kinks frontman Ray Davies constructed the concept album as the soundtrack to a Granada Television play and developed the storyline with novelist Julian Mitchell the television programme was never produced. The rough plot revolved around Arthur Morgan, a carpet-layer, who was based on Ray and guitarist Dave Davies' brother-in. Arthur or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire - The Kinks. Artist: The Kinks Song: Arthur Album: Arthur: Or The Decline And Fall Of The British Empire Year: 1969 Written By Ray is a concept album released by the Kinks in 1969. Throughout the album, we learn about protagonist Arthur Morgan and his family, such as his wife and his son, Derek, who moves to Australia with his wife and family. His other son, Eddie, and Arthurs brother of the same name who both died in separate wars are also mentioned. Other than the protagonist and his family, the album also touches on various conflicts and events in England and war. The story is loosely based off of various events in England and Ray Davies' own experiences in life. The first two CDs offer the album in newly remastered mono and stereo versions both with seven bonus tracks while the third disc features music from a lost Dave Davies solo album. CD 4 offers a collection of demos, rehearsals, theatrical versions and remixes. In total there are 81 tracks five previously unreleased and 28 previously unreleased versions. And the Kinks answer, like the Bands answer to the American questions, is that a band makes its music out of whatever history has to offer. Arthur has the same guts as the Bands new album, that same reach back into the past, the same sense of age - like the Band, the Kinks can play the role of man near the end of his life when they themselves are merely in their twenties. Arthur is more fun, more cutting, and in the end simply hilarious because whatever England was, it isnt any more, and the Kinks are set free of all responsibilities. Christine Keeler died for their sins. The Kinks are fun
