It may seem surprising, but all these 15 years he remained in the underground of experimental music, and his name is well-known only to inveterate enthusiasts and explorers of this strange phenomenon. THE INFANT CYCLE is a long operating noise experimental project from Ontario, Canada, active since 1992 with many releases on cassette and CD, on different labels and the home imprint THE CEILING. Song Cycle is the debut album by American recording artist Van Dyke Parks, released circa December 1967 by Warner Bros. Records president Lenny Waronker. Unusual CD-sized piece of vinyl that seems long enough despite the tiny amount of grooves fit onto it's clear plastic face. Both pieces are taken from a forthcoming album release by the uncompromising group THE INFANT CYCLE, suggesting an hour of distortion, hum and scratch. The 'A' side takes overdriven hum and blends it into an amorphous churning soundscape soup of scratching and grating noise. It sounds looped and is nowhere near as abrasive as you may think - with the hefty corpse of ampnoise hum, it makes for a curiously benign and relaxing listen. 'B' side also seems a lot less in-yer-face than might be imagined, a gentle wander through the softest explosion imaginable. It's like Japanese Noise embracing the less Folky, more Ambient side of New Age. It remains to be seen how harsh the album will be, but this limited edition taster (40 copies only) suggests it'll be a worthy release.
