The Fraternal Order of the All is guitarist Andrew Gold in a home studio overdubbing mode, making the record he always wanted to make back in 1967 and 1968. To call this album retro-flavored would be putting it mildly, as Gold's tongue is firmly planted in his cheek all throughout the record and attendant booklet, right down to the fake names for all the musicians. Created strictly for fun, Greetings From Planet Love may be silly, but the quality of the material is excellent and the songs are played with an earnest feel and understanding of the music The Fraternal Order Of The All so accurately imitates. Had the album been released at the height of the psychedelic craze, theres no doubt it would have reaped praise. In June of 2011 Andrew Gold departed the earthly realm, but you bet your bippy hes now in rock and roll heaven, hopefully jamming good to a day-glo beat Review made by Beverly Paterson2013. That album's name varies, but is generally known as Fraternal Order of the All - a make-believe band Gold wrote himself as the lead singerguitarist of just to have all kinds of sonic fun spoofing the great masters of sixties through eighties rock and roll. There have been lots of spoof albums predictably, Louden Wainwright III comes to mind. but I have never heard a collection of this magnificence. Andrew pulls this stuff off so easily that none of it sounds like a spoof of any sort. Released in 1997, 70s popster Andrew Gold sings and performs almost every note on Greetings From Planet Love a faux 1967 album anchored by Beach Boys harmonies, Beatles experimentation and a plethora of recognizable nods to The Kinks, Byrds, Dylan, Monkees, Doors & others. 10ccs Graham Gouldman Golds co-hort in Wax UK also joins in the fun on this loving and entertaining spot-the-influence tribute.
