This is The Enid's second album, released on EMI Group Limited in 1977. The purpose of this is to make sure that The Enid's music reaches as many people as possible. It is based on the tarot sequence and on the writings of Charles Williams. It was released in 1976 by EMI. A new version was released on the band's own label in 1984 following its deletion from the EMI catalogue. It is absolutely essential for all fans of rock, classically-inspired rock, progressive rock, great music, and everyone who was at Reading in 1983 The CD comes in a simple jewel case. This is The Enid's finest hour, an album which - in my humble opinion - they have never bettered although 'Aerie Faerie Nonsense' certainly runs it close. In a similar vein to this album the music is primarily orchestrated and symphonic throughout playing like the soundtrack to a movie. The electric guitars add a certain rock element but this is unmistakably layered with brass, violins and crashing drums a rockhestra if you like. The Tower of Babel', 'The Demon King' and 'Under the Summer Stars' all develop feelings of anger, hatred and even depression as the stunning guitar work winds, hypnotizes and at times even thunders along in a rage, backed by an epic atmosphere and lashings of keyboards, trumpets, strange musical effects used on the synthesisers and even a few choir interludes.
