The Costello Show was yet another pseudonym for Declan McManus, perhaps better known as Elvis Costello. This pseud only lasted for one album, the country-flavored King of America, which was his second foray into country music Almost Blue had included mostly country songs. This was released around the same time that Costello toured with T-Bone Burnett, as The Coward Brothers, yet another country pseudonym. View wiki. Costello had tried to capture an authentic stateside sound on his country covers LP, almost blue, but where as that album sounded forced and phony, king of America, sounds real and lived in. It features probably Costello's best collection of songs since, imperial bedroom, and they're all delivered in a U. countrybluesfolk hybrid. 50 видео Воспроизвести все Микс Elvis Costello - King Of America Demos. The Confederates featured luminaries like Jerry Scheff, Jim Keltner, James Burton, Ray Brown and T-Bone Wolk among others, while marking the start of working relationships with both T-Bone Burnett and Mitchell Froom. This led to a much more lived-in country music sound than 1981s Almost Blue. Costello literally took on the album as a return to roots, billing himself by his given name Declan MacManus and replacing the Attractions with a bunch of L. session men although his old band appears on one cut, who give the album a rootsy but sleek veneer that sounds remarkably charged after the polished affectations of his LangerWinstanley productions. And not only does the music sound alive, but so do his songs, arguably his best overall set since Trust. Elvis Costellos got it bad. On King of America, the chorus of the first song sets the rueful tone: I was a fine idea at the timeNow Im a brilliant mistake. Elvis isnt exactly known for his sunny disposition, but here he sounds bruised and broken - not beaten but definitely down for the count, even his melodious eloquence numbed by pain. But their more relaxed, folksy pace puts pressure on Costello the singer without a pumping beat behind him, Elvis gets bogged down. In the end this album just exudes righteous suffering from every pore - even the jokes are at the authors expense. Unfortunately, the station stopped broadcasting.
