The Centre Cannot Hold was recorded over ten days by Steve Albini in Chicago. The music exists not in space, but in a space it is a document of an event, of a room, and of the composer wi. The punk band teams with the pop shape-shifter St. Vincent on an album that loses a lot of the groups unique aesthetic. But The Center Wont Hold isnt a matter of the producer commandeering the band. Vincents sonic choices, but they forged them on their own. The break between Sleater-Kinneys past and present gets detailed in the albums title track and opener. The Center Won't Hold is the ninth studio album by American rock band Sleater-Kinney, released on August 16, 2019 by Mom Pop Music. The album was produced by St Vincent and is the last album with drummer Janet Weiss, who announced her departure from the band on July 1, 2019.
